Portrait photography or portraiture is a photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. In this post we showcased shockingly awesome self portrait photography by Luca Pierro. Rather than relying on the visual manipulation techniques acquired through post-production editing, Pierro incorporates natural materials like flour, milk, and water on set, within the frame of the shoot.
Pierro’s photography style is totally unique. Using a variety of elements like wool and newspapers, he immerses himself in his tightly-framed environment, translating human emotions while presenting a multitude of colors, textures, and materials.
Luca Pierro was born in Cantu (Italy) in 1978. At the age of thirteen he got his first camera, a Polaroid, and falls in love with photography and art in general, under the influence of parents and, in particular the mother, a painter. At the age of sixteen test the first experiments in the darkroom. Captured images come alive with the first SLR, a Pentax ME Super, “stolen” to his father. At nineteen he moved to Rome to undertake university studies. During this period, while continuing to love photography, he devoted himself to music, his other great passion.
In 2009 he won second prize in the photography competition held by Ichnusa on Sardinia. In 2010 he won first prize at MostraMi in Milan. He currently lives and works in Cagliari. Now let’s jump to the self-portrait photographs and see how creative he look like. Don’t forget to visit his website here.
